Reasons
ReasonsJane Mayer, 2018 There will be many reasons to go—snaking their way behind the door, scuttling underneath the carpet, weaving flags of glittering truthswith perfectly timed argumentsproving that this is too hard. And if you listen—if you allow their siren songsto lull you back into the life that feels okay enough—only you will lose. So your work, my child, is not to go or to listen deeplyfor the siren song that makes it right enough to leave, but to attune yourself to their repetitive words, and their sensuous melancholy melodiesuntil you can say— Ah! You again. I see your song. But I will stay. And then, your work, dear child, becomes the weaving and creating of every reason, making stained glass windows of staying, and cleaning cobwebs of doubt, and stacking foundations of the sacredunder the door. Writing stories of your strength, and painting pictures of your perfect geometry, and singing songs of light to the shadowy sensations of doubt. And this, my child, is how you becomeall that you are under the reasons to go—and all that you were under the reasons you left.and all that you be under the shadows of doubt. And how you healand how you changeand how you become You.God.Whole.
